Introduction
Welcome to the very first episode of the Honorably ReCharged Podcast. I'm your host, Wayne, and along with our incredible team, I help manage the online and social media presence for the nonprofit, Honorably ReCharged.
For those who may not know us, Honorably ReCharged is a nonprofit dedicated to serving those who served us. Our core mission is to provide support for veterans experiencing or at risk of homelessness. We focus on direct on-the-ground support like our Food Programs, where we meet people exactly where they are, whether that's walking with them to a local restaurant to pay for their meal or hand-delivering bulk food and necessities. We also facilitate donations through gift cards and our online wish lists to ensure our veterans have access to vital hygiene and food items.
We see the statistics every day. Tens of thousands of veterans experiencing homelessness across the country, many suffering with mental illness, and over a million more at risk. But behind every one of those numbers is a person, an American hero who, for whatever reason, has been left on the streets.
And that is why we are starting this podcast.
This show is our attempt to peel back the curtain and move beyond the statistics. We are here to highlight the very real, complex, and often heartbreaking issues that our homeless veterans struggle with every single day.
Over the coming weeks, you can expect three types of episodes:
Educational deep dives into the root causes and systemic issues of veteran homelessness.
Anecdotal stories from our volunteers about the moments and interactions that inspire and challenge us.
Most importantly, on-location interviews with veterans living on the streets of Los Angeles. We will be giving them the microphone and the platform to share their own experiences, in their own words, with dignity and respect.
Our goal is simple: to educate you, to inspire you to action, and ultimately, to honor those who have sacrificed so much for all of us.
